Dear Angel,

May I ask the reason why you would like to split the simulation in two steps? In principle nothing speaks against this, but then - as you pointed out - one needs to carefully consider the normalization. In particular, per source event in the second step you should not only load one secondary from the first step, but all secondaries produced in one primary event. Secondly, if you have primary events in the first step, which do not produce secondaries in the region/boundary of interest, then this needs to be taken into account in the final normalization, since you only load a sub-set of the original primary events in the second step. This latter normalization cannot be directly included in the IRRPROFILe, since the IRRPROFILe doesn't know that it only simulates a sub-set of the original primary events.

So if it is permissible in CPU time, I would not split the simulation. But of course in some cases this might not be be possible because of statistics...

Cheers, Anton

Subject: [fluka-discuss]: source.f and irrprofi card

Dear fluka experts and users,

My intention is to score activation of materials (cyclotron target
shielding task) by using collision tape with secondaries obtained by
simulating irradiation of target with proton beam. I intend to use these
secondaries by applying the source card in the .inp file to score
activation in cyclotron bunker walls and local target shielding. So I have
to set the irrprofi card. My question is what i need to put in it, the
proton beam current or the current of the secondaries?

If I need to use the current of the secondaries, since I don not know it,
is there a way to find it or i better run the simulation in one step,
scoring directly the activation I am interested in, not using the
collision tape?

Best regards,
Angel
