[fluka-discuss]: FLUKA2020 distributions

Dear developers and experts,

We have a problem compiling the new 2020 distribution on our machines,
most of which use the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7. I guess many research
centers like us are forced to use the older versions of Linux for
stability. In RHEL7 "gfortran" compiler is the only possibility (no g77).
The gcc and gfortran upgrades to the latest releases are possible; up to
now we were able to install them locally, compile and run FLUKA. However,
the latest release also includes the need to compile against the new
version of glibc. The new library (libmvec.so) is needed in the
distribution, and it is absent in RHEL7. The update to, and use of the new
glibc is generally impossible in Linux, as it is the basic system package.
Upgrades to RHEL8 are not yet planned, and use of Fedora is strongly
discouraged in the centralized computing environment.

In that respect, may we ask if you think it's possible to create FLUKA
builds made for such conservative systems. It would be great if you could
have an equivalent CentOS 7 machine (glibc-2.17) with the
"devtoolset-9" package installed (to allow the gcc/gfortran version bump
to 9.1, presently), and make the FLUKA2020 distribution in such
environment.

With my best regards,
Pavel Degtiarenko, Jefferson Lab
