You are correct in that I am nominally interested in residual dose rates and activity, and this is the way I have done this in the past when the cases have been rather simple, such as what I described in the original post. I would be somewhat reluctant to do this method though if I needed to simulate very large numbers of sources at different times.

The biggest problem I encountered when performing calculations this way was merging the .bnn files to generate an overall residual dose rate plot.

The only solution that was found was to convert the files to ASCII in the data tab and then process the results with a small script. This had its own drawbacks in that the geometry data could not be overlaid easily.

Is there a simple way of doing this in FLUKA/FLAIR?

I guess from your problem that you are interested in residual dose rate or radioactivity after the last irradiation ? If this is the case, what I would personally do is to run three different calculations with different IRRPROFI (change the beam intensity/energy and irradiation duration) and beam position for the three cases.
If you want the residual dose rate 1 hour after the last irradiation (last 5 h block), then define as cooling time DCYTIMES (if I understood correctly) :
1st case: (1 h + 10 h +2 h + 5 h) + 1 h
2nd case: (2 h + 5 h) + 1 h
3rd case: + 1 h

And you can just sum the three cases at the end. If you look at prompt quantities, just do the same (add the three contributions) after proper normalization to account for the beam intensity.

It seems to be the most straightforward approach with no need for user routines.

Hello Fluka Experts,

I am interesting in running a fluka simulation with multiple sources but with a given time delay between each source term. An example of what I would like to run would be something like:

electron beam hitting a metal target for 1 hour 1h cooling electron beam hitting the same target from a different side for 10 hours 2h cooling electron beam hitting the same target but at a different energy and different angle for 5 hours

I know that using the source card I can define a user subroutine which can be used to define the three source terms, however I am not sure how to define irradiation times and particle age correctly. I am hoping that by changing the parameter AGESTK this may be achievable?

If the total source activity was for instance:

100k electrons in the first 1h block
1000k electrons in the second 10h block
500k electrons in the final 5h block

Could I use a random number and three IF statements to define the particles age? If it is as simple as this when specifying a DCYTIMES card for scoring purposes, would the decay time still be (1+1+10+2+5)* 3600?
