Hi Adam,
it seems a problem related to the gfortran version. Have you
tried to install gfortran-8? The command is:
sudo apt-get install gfortran-8
In Ubuntu it is rather easy to keep gfortran versions separated,
since they are installed with different names (gfortran-7 and
gfortran-8, for example).
