Re: Energy cut-off multiplication factors

Dear George,

as you have seen the manual tell us that WHAT(5) in the RADDECAY card
sets multiplication factors only for e+/e-/gamma transport energy
cut-offs, both for prompt and decay radiation, not for the production
energy cut-offs.

I think that these multiplication factors have been introduced to avoid
the eventual problems coming from different needs in the choice of the
transport threshold in the prompt and in the residual radiation: in order
to have meaningful results for the propagation of the residual radiation
we need low transport thresholds, which (depending on the problem) could
require a too long cpu time if applied at the prompt radiation.

I think also that we don't have to set the e+/e-/gamma production
threshold for the radioactive decays: if we activate the radioactive
decays (WHAT(1)=1 or>1 in the RADDECAY card, as you know) then with a
certain probability the radioactive nucleus will transform in another
nucleus by emitting radiation. The problem is therefore a problem of
radiation transport and not of radiation production (...some author can
correct me!).

Ciao,

Anna
