[fluka-discuss]: RE: MCNP VS FLUKA

Dear Amy,

I cannot really advise you on your MCNP setup, but looking at your 3D plot it indeed appears strange to have such a peaked dose distribution in the wall perpendicular to the beam direction (I suppose that in your MCNP geometry the copper cylinder is at x/z=0/100cm and not at x/z=0/0cm as in your FLUKA model?). Just as a side remark: your FLUKA bin size is 10cm and is therefore much coarser than the MCNP binning. If there would be such a peak in FLUKA (which is not the case) you would to some extent average it out. If you do a comparison between two codes, I would always use the exactly same setup (in terms of geometry, source and scoring).

Please note in your FLUKA setup that electron/positron/photon transport is off since you are using SHIELDIN as DEFAULTS (I see that you are also scoring gammas). In principle the equivalent dose is dominated by neutrons, but if you also want the gammas you need to switch on their transport.

Last but not least it doesn't make too much sense to look at equivalent dose *inside* the concrete wall.

Cheers, Anton

I am sorry about that. Please see other two figures and attached FLUKA input. Thank you for your kind help.

Dear Amy,

You attached three times the same figure. Besides that, could you please also send the FLUKA input file.

Cheers, Anton

I did some study about the dose comparison between MCNP and FLUKA in a simple case. 200 nA, 230 MeV proton hits a Copper target, surrounded by concrete tunnel. Strangely the dose increases first at the beginning ~40 cm in concrete shield in MCNP, however this doesn’t happen in FLUKA. I attached the output file and mesh tally file of MCNP. I don’t know whether I made a mistake…
The first two figures belong to MCNP and the last one belongs to FLUKA. Dose anybody knows why it is like this?
Thanks for your kind help,
Amy
