FLUKA Course Details -------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED===08.11.2008 TITLE===Course details TYPE===course --------------------------------------------------------
The course is open for CERN staff, fellows, students and associates, as well as people from external institutes already using FLUKA, or intending to do so. This dedicated training is intended to give the opportunity to both, learning the basics about FLUKA for new users, as well as deepening the knowledge about the underlying models for more experienced users.
A course contribution of 300CHF (190EUR) is required to enrol for the course. The modest fee is entirely used to cover travel and lodging costs for external lecturers, course material, a guided tour and coffee breaks. An official dinner will be organised, however this (and related costs) will be proposed directly during the course.
No particular experience with FLUKA or similar Monte-Carlo packages is required, however basic knowledge of LINUX/UNIX is essential. For newcomers, not only to FLUKA but also to Linux, we strongly recommend you to have a look into a Linux tutorial in order being able to profit a maximum from the FLUKA course.
Only 13 Computers will be available, to be preferably used by full beginners. Thus, if you are already an experienced LINUX/UNIX user and have your own laptop (with a Linux installation or an appropriate X-Windows system) we would kindly ask you bringing it along for the course. If possible, please verify the correct functioning of FLUKA and FLAIR already prior to the course start. If you experience problems, please contact us ahead of the course in order to avoid installation and configuration problems during the actual course. You can find additional information concerning installation, needed libraries, etc. in the FLUKA Questions Mailing List or the FAQs
