Dear colleagues,
in the slides of the hadron lecture given at the last FLUKA course (
https://indico.cern.ch/event/365567/contribution/28/attachments/726813/997351/11_Hadronic_Interactions_2015.pdf) it is mentioned that the PEANUT model has been extended to cover the whole energy range and that this extended model should be switched on if precise particle production calculations are of concern, even though the improved model is not yet default.
At the same time the release notes contain the following paragraph:
"Most of the physics improvements are brand new and still unpublished. This version should not be used to publish results about individual model validation/benchmarking (see the license), in particular but not only when the new features are concerned."
These two recommendations seem to be somewhat contradictory and we're now wondering if the extended model has been benchmarked and should be switched on for "production" calculations as well as results that should be published. We would highly appreciate advice on how to proceed properly in this matter.
Furthermore, the manual indicates how to activate PEANUT for all energies for hadrons but in my understanding it's not clear how handle photonuclear interactions. The manual currently states:
For SDUM = PEATHREShold:
WHAT(1) : maximum PEANUT kinetic energy for nucleons (GeV)
=< 0.0 : ignored
WHAT(2) : maximum PEANUT kinetic energy for pions (GeV)
=< 0.0 : ignored
WHAT(3) : maximum PEANUT kinetic energy for kaons (GeV)
=< 0.0 : ignored
WHAT(4) : maximum PEANUT kinetic energy for kaonbars (GeV)
=< 0.0 : ignored
WHAT(5) : maximum PEANUT kinetic energy for antinucleons (GeV)
=< 0.0 : ignored
WHAT(6) : maximum PEANUT kinetic energy for (anti)hyperons (GeV)
=< 0.0 : ignored
Default (no PEATHREShold option): PEANUT is called up to 5 GeV kinetic
energy for all hadrons
The PHYSICS cards allows to switch on the new model (with some caveats about the quasielastic issue) eg with:
PHYSICS 1000. 1000. 1000. 1000. 1000. 1000. PEATHRES
Will photonuclear reactions profit automagically from the extended model if activated with the PHYSICS card parameters given above or does one have to add a specific card to have the benefit?
Thanks for your help.
Best regards
Chris
