Beam Loss Monitoring Study @GSI for a new accelerator facility FAIR. Vladimir Lavrik Uni Frankfurt; GSI, Darmstadt Abstract: FAIR is a brand new accelerator facility which will be built in Germany at GSI. The FAIR beam loss monitoring (BLM) system must be a part of the global machine protection system which prevents the super conducting magnets from quenching and protect the machine components from damage by lost beam. There are several types of beam loss monitors at GSI. In this work the LHC-type of ionization chamber is described. The talk will focus on the two main aims: 1. FLUKA simulations of response function of LHC-type of ionization chamber. 2. Calibration of the LHC-type of ionization chamber against losses of U ions of different energies. 3. Comparison between simulations and experimental data.
