Even if ELCFIELD would be operational, it would not help much.
FLUKA can calculate the energy absorbed in the gas and the electrons
liberated (although not all of them, but only those with energy > 1 keV),
but it would not be sufficient to track the electrons in the electric
field, the current in the chamber is made also by the ions. And it is necessary
to take into account the recombination.
There are two ways to handle ionization chamber problems:
- to calculate just the energy deposition, and to derive ionization and
recombination corrections separtately using some formula. See for instance
the attached Note, sections 3 and 5
- to use specialized programs such as GARFIELD, see:
