Hello Riya,

Please note that most of the energy is deposited in the source material itself. It makes sense that the remaining spectrum is easily absorbed by soil, which has similar density and composition to feldspar and quartz.

Also, please consider the following comments regarding your input:

BEAM momentum/energy should not be left blank. Comment 3 of the manual page for the SOURCE card:
Even when overridden by SOURCE, the momentum or kinetic energy defined by WHAT(1) of option BEAM is meaningful, since it is taken as maximum energy for several scoring facilities. Therefore, it is recommended to input in any case a BEAM card with the maximum energy expected in the current run.

Your transport cuts only apply to the source and the target, but not to the soil, and the production cuts only apply to feldspar, but not to the soil and quartz. You should probably apply the same cuts to all regions and materials, unless you have some other consideration not obvious to me.

Regards,
George

Subject: [fluka-discuss]: BETA TRANSPORT IN SOIL

Dear FLUKA Experts,

I was trying to estimate energy deposition from a feldspar source emitting
beta radiation (with definite spectrum) to a quartz target. The surrounding
media is soil only. The radius of the source is 0.01 cm emitting beta
isotropically and the radius of the target is also 0.01cm.

The centre to centre distance is 0.02cm (i.e. both the source and target
surfaces are touching with each other). In this case the result is of the
order of 2E-06 GeV/primary.

If the centre to centre distance is increased to 0.04 cm, the energy is
8.1385E-08 GeV/primary.

It is not expected that by increasing to this small separation, the energy
is decreased by 2 order less. In the literature also, the decrease is very
smooth in nature.

Is there any other card that has to be activated for electron transport ??

With regards,

Riya Dey
