[fluka-discuss]: Core dump with heavy ion beam

Dear FLUKA Community:

I have created a simple model with cylindrical symmetry to estimate the
dose equivalent rate resulting from a heavy ion beam striking a carbon
target an a copper beam dump. Steel, borated polyethylene, and concrete
shielding are present. I have a USRBIN tally set to score dose equivalent
outside of the concrete.

First scenario:

Beam: Ca-48

Energy: 261 MeV/u

Target thickness: 0.914 cm

Result: FLUKA runs without any problems

Second scenario:

Beam: U-238

Energy: 202.1 MeV/u

Target thickness: 0.171 cm

Result: FLUKA crashes with “Program received signal SIGFPE: Floating-point
exception - erroneous arithmetic operation.”

The only difference between the two input files is the beam energy in BEAM,
the beam Z and A in HI-PROPE, and the target thickness in RCC TGT. No
other changes were made to the input file with the uranium beam.

I am using the most recent version of FLUKA with gcc version 4.7.1. The
executable was linked with the ldpm2qmd script. I do not have any geometry
errors when I open these input files in flair. The files for each case are
attached.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Jeremy Northum
