9th Fluka Course, BARC, Mumbai, IndiaDates of course: 26 - 30 October, 2009 Registration Completed IntroductionFLUKA is a fully integrated particle physics Monte-Carlo simulation package. It has many applications in high energy experimental physics and engineering, shielding, detector and telescope design, cosmic ray studies, dosimetry, medical physics and radio-biology. More information, as well as related publications can be found on the FLUKA website. The 9th FLUKA School will be conducted jointly by the Health Physics Division and Radiation Safety Systems Division of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC). The dedicated school will help professionals working in the Monte Carlo radiation transport fields to understand the various functions and attributes of the code. The course will start with the basic ideas but will quickly progress to the advanced aspects of the code. Few examples from the participants will be taken up during the course. Course Fee
RegisterRegistration can be done by completing the form and sending it to the course organizers. Please make arrangements for the payment as soon as your participation is accepted by the organizers. VenueThe venue is the lecture hall of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) at Anushaktinagar, the residential complex of Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). Accommodation will be arranged for all the participants in the guest house of the DAE-BARC which is situated adjacent to HBNI. Anushaktinagar, situated near Trombay on the Sion-trombay road (Bombay Pune high way) is a high security zone that has residential buildings and few offices of the Department of Atomic Energy. All participants are encouraged to stay at the guest house where accommodation will be arranged for all. Entry to Anushaktinagar is restricted. However the organizer will care take of these aspects. Accommodation will be air-conditioned rooms single rooms with cable television. Transport from airport to guest house accommodation and back can be arranged by the organizers. This is the recommended way to reach the guest house. On prior intimation, the organizers will arrange someone to receive the participant at the airport. Please contact the local organizers for the arrangement. Pre paid taxis are also available at the airport. Look for the pre paid taxi booth after customs clearance but before exiting the airport. See the airport web page for more information. Prior KnowledgeNo particular experience with FLUKA or similar Monte-Carlo packages is required, however basic knowledge of LINUX/UNIX is welcome. For newcomers, not only to FLUKA but also to Linux, we strongly recommend you to have a look into a Linux tutorial in order being able to profit at maximum from the FLUKA course. ComputersIntel desktop machines will be arranged with 3 participants expected to share one machine. Those who have personal laptops are encouraged to bring them for the course. However, in order to avoid delay during the course, please ensure that the operating system and the required compilers are configured before the start of the course. Personal LaptopIf you have your own laptop that you would prefer to use during the course we would kindly ask you bringing it along and inform the course organization committee about it. If possible, please verify the correct functioning of FLUKA and FLAIR already prior to the course start. If you experience problems, please contact us ahead of the course in order to avoid installation and configuration problems during the actual course.
