[fluka-discuss]: Re: An old question revisited

Hi Maura

Yes, you must (currently) have the entire geometry in CAD, but don't worry there's an app for the that :) Assuming that you can use flairs export to mcnp feature, then you can use a tool mcnp2cad to convert the entire geometry to CAD, where you can then integrate your component into the CAD geometry.

If you want a hand just give me a shout.

Thanks

Andy

         Dear Dr Kharashvili,

I am going to read the paper you suggested.

It sounds like the whole model must be implemented through CAD.

If this is the case then FluDAG is not useful for my project since the synchrotron model has already been implemented with Fluka.

I only have to add a custom component whose shape is not found in the available geometry library.

From experience with other packages (Geant4, Topas), I thought it would be possible to implement the custom component with a CAD package (Autocad, Solid Works, ...). Then export the CAD file of the custom component to a format that can be read by Fluka so as to integrate the custom component with the existing synchrotron model.

From your statement, it sounds like it is not possible to go down this route.

Am I right or wrong?

Thank you.

      Best regards,

       Maura

Dear Maura,

To go back to your original question about importing CAD files into FLUKA, the answer is no: there is no direct importing of CAD into FLUKA. FluDAG is a software package that allows you to run FLUKA directly on CAD models. The earlier thread contained this link to NIM paper describing FluDAG development https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nima.2018.10.117<https://eur02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdoi.org%2F10.1016%2Fj.nima.2018.10.117&data=02%7C01%7Cmm01886%40surrey.ac.uk%7Ccd52b99bc66c4945488f08d6e0e7855e%7C6b902693107440aa9e21d89446a2ebb5%7C0%7C0%7C636943682350864076&sdata=9N7hi6RtKOHb6AHIBY5lOnyxxkrgQVIEX7fBFIv6x3Y%3D&reserved=0>

Thank you.

I read the message. I don't quite understand if FluDAG is another Monte Carlo package that uses Fluka as its engine or it is a new Fluka version, or it is a Fluka extension.

Where can I find out about FluDAG?

Best regards,

Dear Maura,

Check out FluDAG. Reference was posted here several months ago

Subject: [fluka-discuss]: An old question revisited

     Dear Fluka experts,

I found an old email, dated 2016, which is dealing with a topic I am interested in.

The email inquired about the possibility of importing CAD files into a Fluka model.

Such a feature is available from Geant4, Topas. Maybe also from MCNPX but I am not 100% sure about it.

In 2016 the answer was negative .

I wonder whether in the meantime something has changed about Fluka.

Has it been modernized at all?

Thank you.

     Best regards,

         maura E. M.
