AW: [fluka-discuss]: LOW-PWXS changes DOSE-EQ

Dear Alberto.
I ran LOWENNEU and NTLOWENE in both cases. LOWENNEU were empty, NTLOWENE distributions have not any visible differences.

Regards
Anna

Dear Anna,
please keep in mind that Dose Equivalent is not a DOSE, but a FLUENCE (weighted with factors with dimensions of dose).
You don't see differences with DOSE, SI1MEVNE and HADGT20M: these quantities are all more or less related to dose from
neutrons of more than a few MeV, therefore the difference of Dose Equivalent seems mainly due to low-energy neutrons, which is
understandable since you are now using different low-energy neutron cross sections.
Could you just compare low-energy neutron fluence with and without LOW-PWXS?
Alberto

Dear Stefan.
I didn't use this option in previous FLUKA version. But what strange for me, I do not see any differences in DOSE, SI1MEVNE and HADGT20M.
I will try to test from my side also, and send you input, which I used.

Regards
Anna

Dear Anna,

not sure if I would expect such a behavior. Is this observed also when
using target materials other than Ni?

I am not an expert (yet) on pointwise cross sections in FLUKA, but in
order to isolate the problem it could be useful to specify the
LOW-PWXS-card for the individual isomers rather than setting WHAT(1)=1.
(which lets FLUKA choose the corresponding pointwise cross section
data sets - it probably does the right thing, but does it mention which
data sets it chooses in the .out-file?).

Would it be possible for you to send (excerpts of) the input file so we
can try to reproduce the problem?

Also was this effect observed also in FLUKA2021.2.1, or is this visible
only in FLUKA2021.2.2?

Cheers,

        Stefan
