Dear Guanying,

There are 4 low-energy neutron cross section options for Ar-40 in FLUKA (FLUKA Manual Chapter 10.4.1.2):

  40Ar Argon 40 296K TENDL-13

  40Ar Argon 40 87K JEFF-3.1

  40Ar Argon 40 SelfShielded 296K TENDL-13

  40Ar Argon 40 SelfShielded 87K JEFF-3.1

Meanwhile, the ENDF online libraries offer many different sets of neutron cross section data that are based on JEFF-3.1-3.2-3.3, TENDL-2014-2015-2017, JENDL, etc. Hence, in order to interpret the results of your comparison, one must first know exactly which data sets are being compared.

Best regards,

George

Subject: [fluka-discuss]: Low-energy neutron cross section of 40Ar

Dear FLUKA experts,

I’m trying to compare FLUKA low-energy neutron cross section of 40Ar with ENDF libraries. From the attached plot, it seems that discrepancies exist for both elastic-scattering and radiative-capture channels.

I simply extract the cross section with LOW-NEUT card, and assume: sigma_ES = (1 - PNEL) * SIGT; sigma_capture = PNGAM * SIGT. Also attached are the input and output files.

Does anyone know if I misinterpret the output or if the discrepancies are real? Thank you very much!

Best,

Guanying
